MEDIEVAL ALABASTER BISHOPS HANDS CLASPED IN PRAYER

MEDIEVAL ALABASTER BISHOPS HANDS CLASPED IN PRAYER

A rare fragment from a medieval English Bishop or Archbishop's tomb, most likely vandalised during the reformation or later civil war. The hands would have been part of an alabaster effigy of the deceased Prelate and the hands always clasped in prayer. Here you can see the person is wearing Episcopal gloves, depicting 'IHS' and with a Bishop's ring.
