The Vatican Chandelier
A large Italian gessod and gilt metal chandelier hung with pressed glass of twelve lights with a further six spikes for candles.
Commissioned for the Vatican in Rome, this piece was part of a series of chandeliers that were made in the Louis XVI style in the 19th Century. Of varying size, the chandeliers lit the central nave of St Peter's during religious festivals. In 1981 the chandelier was sold by the Vatican State (see the documentation). Originally had a fabric sleeve running through the centre.
